On February 15, join us for the kick-off event of the new CLS series, Building Resilience for Today’s Security Threats. The evening will feature Nick Rasmussen—who retired in December after three years serving as Director of the National Counterterrorism Center—in conversation with Lisa Monaco, former Homeland Security Adviser to President Barack Obama. The two former high-level government officials will discuss their perspectives on the shifting terrorism threat and what lessons in resilience communities can glean from the way federal and local government have responded to previous terrorist attacks.

More than a decade and a half after 9/11, the disrupted world order has caused national security threats to significantly evolve. Terrorists have exploited chaotic pockets of the world to carve out safe havens, the rise of technology has created a new landscape of potential attacks, and globalization and climate change have contributed to the intensified threat of infectious disease outbreaks. In the face of these changing threats, governments and communities are no longer just grappling the question of how to prevent crises, but what to do when one inevitably occurs. Over the course of the year, the Center on Law and Security will convene a series of events and discussions that explore this evolving threat landscape and avenues for resilience-building through the themes of terrorism, cybersecurity, and pandemics. Please stay tuned for future events!
