Past ASPIRE scholars

Brian Eschels eschelsis a 2016 graduate of NYU School of Law currently working as an Honors Attorney at the U.S. Department of Homeland Security. He is primarily interested in the nexus of democracy, speech, privacy, and security, particularly as these values coexist on the internet. During law school, Brian focused on the cybersecurity aspects of national security law and criminal procedure, and participated in the Technology Law and Policy Clinic. He interned at the Government Accountability Project and at NYPD’s Bureau of Risk Management during his 1L and 2L summers, respectively. Brian Graduated Phi Beta Kappa and Magna Cum Laude from the University of Washington with degrees in Psychology and Philosophy. At DHS, Brian is currently rotating through the National Protection and Programs Legal Division, which provides legal counsel to DHS’s cybersecurity operators.

kirby-miniKevin Kirby is a 2017 graduate of NYU School of Law interested in national security law, renewable energy, and computer programming. In fall 2017, he will begin work as a Law Clerk with the Senior Deputy Comptroller and Chief Counsel at the Office of the Comptroller of the Currency. He was a board member of the student group SERV (Students for the Education and Representation of Veterans), through which he has helped provide advocacy for veterans in need of fair hearings for government benefits. Prior to law school, Kevin was a business systems project manager at Starbucks, and before that he served five years as an army engineer. He graduated with an honors degree in English and Philosophy from the United States Military Academy.
