SUMMARY:UNGA High-Level Side Event: Stopping the Destabilizing Flow of Sensitive Technology
DESCRIPTION:On Thursday\, September 26\, the Reiss Center hosted a multilateral side event convened by the United States\, Ukraine\, United Kingdom\, Japan\, and the European Union on the margins of the United Nations General Assembly high-level week. The discussion addressed the topic of stopping the destabilizing flow of sensitive technology and was chaired by U.S. Assistant Attorney General Matthew G. Olsen of the Justice Department’s National Security Division\, Ukrainian Prosecutor General Andriy Kostin\, and European Commissioner for Justice Didier Reynders. Diplomats and officials from 18 countries and the EU joined the meeting. \nIn two sessions\, presenters from a range of countries described the threat landscape of efforts to acquire these technologies as well as the legal authorities and other tools that can be employed to stop their illicit flow\, including across multilateral partnerships.
