SUMMARY:UK and US Counter-radicalization and Counterterrorism
DESCRIPTION:On April 9\, 2013 the Center on Law and Security hosted a lecture on the British and American experiences with counter-radicalization\, counter-extremism\, and engagement with Islamist groups in both countries’ struggle against terrorism in the post-9/11 era.  The panelists discussed the current terrorism threat environment\, both foreign and domestic\, as well as significant foreign policy and counterterrorism challenges such as Syria\, and the lessons that can be derived from each country’s struggle to determine how best to engage with complex political/religious groups in their efforts to prevent terrorism. \nThe discussion was led by: \n\nKaren Betts\, Counsellor and Joint Intelligence Committee Representative\, UK Embassy in Washington\, DC;\nProfessor Ahmed al-Rahim\, CLS Fellow\, Assistant Professor of Islamic Studies at UVA;\nProfessor Sam Rascoff\, CLS Faculty Director and Associate Professor of Law at NYU School of Law\n\n
