SUMMARY:Secrecy Across Borders: Judging National Security
DESCRIPTION:The Center on Law and Security presents:\nSecrecy Across Borders: Judging National Security \nMonday\, November 30\, 2015  \n6 p.m. – 7:30 p.m.\nTo watch the video of the event\, click here \nThe Center on Law and Security presents a panel discussion with: \n\nFormer Chief Justice Dorit Beinisch\, Weinstein Family Distinguished Fellow\, Center on Law and Security; Global Professor of Law from Practice; Former Chief Justice of Israel\nThe Lord Pannick QC\, Barrister\, Blackstone Chambers\nSamuel J. Rascoff\, Professor\, NYU School of Law; Faculty Director\, Center on Law and Security\nAndrew Weissmann\, Adjunct Professor\, NYU School of Law; Former General Counsel\, FBI\n\nThis panel discussion including former Chief Justice Dorit Beinisch\, Lord Pannick\, Samuel J. Rascoff\, and Andrew Weissmann\, will focus on secrecy and the adjudication of national security cases around the world. In today’s national security environment\, national courts in places like Israel\, the United States\, and the United Kingdom\, as well as international courts in Europe\, must increasingly deal with secret materials. Questions are arising regularly about how to adequately protect society’s interest in security without compromising the rights of defendants. The panelists will focus on situations where secrecy rules can conflict with individual rights to criminal justice in regional and international courts\, and the judicial philosophy and national security concerns motivating a broadening range of cases in courts around the world today. \n
